A Little Bit About Brenda Lee Fisher!

A quote from the Editor of the Penticton Herald, “From January 2011 through March 2013, the Penticton Herald carried “Dear Ms. Barber.” This popular column was written by Brenda Fisher-Barber, an early learning expert with over thirty-two years’ experience working with children of all ages. At that time, Brenda was a very busy early learning expert wearing many hats as a StrongStart coordinator with School District 67 at Queen’s Park Elementary School, a Library Board Trustee, and a College Instructor with eighteen years’ experience instructing students in early childhood education (ECE) courses. She also has had numerous years experience as a foster parent and preschool teacher, and was raising a teenage son”.
Due to my battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer during 2014, I had to leave my popular parenting advice Column in the Penticton Herald, “Dear Ms. Barber”. I have since returned to the pages of my Hometown Newspaper in November 2016 and have formally changed the name of my Column to “Dear Brenda Lee”, the beautiful name I was given from my parents. I was named after the Country Singer from the early 60’s, Brenda Lee, when I was born in 1963 as she was a favourite singer of both of my parents! I have also finally removed my ex-husband’s last name, Barber, from my professional and personal life and have gone back to my maiden name, Fisher. It has been a little confusing to a few people, but it was time, as I have been divorced since 2006.
I have found the “lost love of my life”, Kenny Thompson, and we have been together since the end of 2014……we have married and are looking forward to the rest of our wonderful life together. My new initials are BLT……a great sandwich!
I will continue to be posting my Columns from the past and present for all to read. As well I will be posting articles from parenting publications, such as, BC Parent, that I also contribute to and encourage anyone struggling with parenting issues, educating questions, caregiving problems or just wanting to learn more about children in general or specific, to reach out to me by email.
Good luck on your journey through parenthood and childhood.
